Reordering layers

Jump to Mobile

Are you having a tough time finding different layers because you have so many layers? Well, Sketchbook has two options for you. One is physical organization, which we’ll talk about here. The other is visual organization‍.

How to organize layers

Physical organization is the rearranging of your layers. It’s dragging them to new positions within the Layer Editor to group them together to make it easier to find content.

There are two ways to organize layers. One is layer grouping, which is currently only available in Sketchbook Pro on desktop. For information, see Grouping layers‍. The other is the physical rearranging of layers.

How to rearrange layers

Rearrange layers to change the order of elements in your image. For example, a text layer is at the bottom of the editor, followed by the main image layer, and the background image. You can’t see the text or the penguin. Dragging the background image below these layers corrects this.

Modify an image quickly by reordering your layers. Drag layers above or below one another within the Layer Editor.

  • To make a layer appear in front of another, move it above another.
  • To make a layer appear behind another, move it below another.
