RETIRED - Release Notes for Autodesk® SketchBook Pro (Enterprise Version)

This product has been retired and is no longer available. We have left this article to support those still using this version of Autodesk Sketchbook Pro.

IMPORTANT: The enterprise version of SketchBook, formerly known as Autodesk® SketchBook Pro, has been retired. Since the feature list was the same, with the exception of the Curved Ruler (which has been added to version 9.0) and the network installation option, we decided to retire this version.

This readme contains the latest information regarding installation and use of the RETIRED ENTERPRISE version of Autodesk® SketchBook Pro. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document. For reference, you should save this readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

What's New for Autodesk® SketchBook Pro 2021

For this release, we added a Curve Ruler. Found in the Guides, use it to draw curves and sweeps, not possible with the Ellipse or French Curve tool. Simply tap-drag an end to change its shape or drag the middle to reposition it. Need a larger curve? Scale the ruler. Want to retain a curve, but need to move the ruler to do so? No problem. And, like our other guides, there is no need to draw directly on this ruler. We fixed some bugs, made some general improvements, and made changes regarding the operating systems we support.

What's New for Autodesk® SketchBook Pro 2020.3

The following fixes and changes can be found in this version:

  • For Windows users, we added a new security fix for the DLL loading issue on Windows.
  • For Windows users using Wacom devices, we fixed a Wacom issue, so SketchBook now recognizes the pressure applied when drawing.

  • The canvas now fits the screen, instead of displaying only the top left corner, when a new fixed-sized canvas is set and created.
  • For Windows users with a high-DPI display, we have updated SketchBook so it appears crisp, not blurry.
  • For MacBook Pro users, we’ve added quick access icons and sliders to the Touch Bar for undoing/redoing and changing brush/color attributes.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.

What's New for Autodesk® SketchBook Pro 2018

The following new tools, fixes, and changes can be found in this version of Autodesk® SketchBook Pro:

  • For Mac users - We listened and brought back the Mac system Color Editor. To switch to it, select SketchBook Pro > Preferences > General, then select Use system Color Editor.
  • Use a brush texture or import an image of your own to create customized brush icons for easier identification, sharing, and resale. We suggest two brush icon sizes (40x40 and 80x80 pixels).
  • Rename brushes and brush sets
  • Brush stamp display: To improve performance and speed things up when using a large brush stamp, turn the brush stamp display off. In Preferences > Brush > Brush Stamp, turn Display brush stamp OFF

  • Predictive Stroke: Smooth out your lines and help improve stroke quality when drawing slowly or with your finger
  • If using a Surface 3 and Cintiq 13HD (Android system) as a dual monitor configuration, there is no longer a display offset issue with the Brush Palette or Color Editor
  • Customize hotkeys assigned to marking menus or individual tools
  • Bug fixes and improvements

Known Issues

This section provides a list of known issues in each update.

Known Issues for Autodesk® SketchBook Pro 2018 - 2020.2

The following is a list of known issues:

Windows Only: You upgrades your Windows OS to 8.1 and your Wacom devices aren't working properly

Solution: Re-install your Wacom drivers.

Windows Only: Windows OS and scrolling up and down

Some users may experience the following:

  • You are on Windows OS and when you try to scroll up or down in the UI, using a pen, instead of scrolling, something else happens.

Why: Windows OS (Control Panel > Pen and Touch > Flicks) Pen Flicks function is ON, which causes the system to flicker.

Solution: Turn off Pen Flicks or if you use a Wacom device, install the latest driver. When you do this, the feature is automatically disabled.

Mac Only: You are running on Mac OS 10.9 and Autodesk® SketchBook Pro starts up from the Home Screen. This is the same with other applications

You have Screen Word Fetching on in some translation application and cannot sketch in Autodesk® SketchBook Pro when in full screen mode.

Solution: Close Autodesk® SketchBook Pro and exit Screen Word Fetching, then reopen Autodesk® SketchBook Pro.

You created a PSD file with a color set for the Background color layer

When you save the file and open it in Photoshop, the background color is lost.

Solution 1: In your Autodesk® SketchBook Pro file, either save it as a TIFF or create another layer for the background color and save it as a PSD. The background color layer of a SketchBook PSD file is dropped when opened in Photoshop to avoid a conflict with the Photoshop background layer of a native PSD file. TIFF files with a background layer don't have this issue.

Solution 2: Toggle the background layer off before saving your work. This turns off the background completely, resulting in a transparent background. Once the file is opened in Photoshop, you can manually create a new background.

Canvas refresh is slow when using symmetry with steady stroke in enabled

Solution: Turn off steady stroke.

The installer does not obey the OS native language

Example: You want English; however, instead, the installer obeys the Standards and Formats language setting (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options) and French appears.

Why: The Standards and Formats language setting is set to French. Many users who use an English OS often set their regional language to another language, so that they can properly view formatted documents in that language.

Solution: Since Autodesk® SketchBook Pro is language agnostic, you can edit your preferences and set the language you want.

  1. Select Edit > Preferences > Language (After application restart).
  2. Select a language from the pull-down menu.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Restart your machine for the change to take effect.
